Jacob Bellens (b. 1979, Nakskov) is best known as a singer and songwriter. He has written songs since he was 13 and has released records since 2004: as lead vocalist of I Got You On Tape, as one half of the duo Murder, with Goblins, and under his own name, with solo albums such as The Daisy Age (2012) and My Convictions (2014). In 2011 he received the Steppeulven award for Singer of the Year.
At Gateway Drugs he shows another side of the same practice: a group of small framed drawings on paper, where loose lines, scribbles and fields of colour share the sheet with handwritten words, mostly in Danish. Some carry a single sentence, like "Hvad mon livet byder mig herfra" or "Jeg er måske egentlig bare okay god nok". One holds a whole short poem. Another simply says "jeg kan da godt skrive noget, en sang, et digt, en historie". It is the songwriter's voice, set down next to a drawing instead of a melody.
